Mason Intermediate (MI) serves Mason City Schools’ fifth and sixth grade students. MI prides itself on having created a safe and engaging learning environment for our students, staff, and parents. As you walk into the building, you will notice several small communities set in "learning pods" in order to give students the feel of a small school environment. Our teachers constantly receive training on research proven teaching techniques and ways in which students learn best.
At MI, students participate in LIFT (Leading Into the Future Together) lessons two times each month. At Mason Intermediate, we want to BUILD COMMUNITY, develop LEADERS, and we want everyone to feel like they BELONG. LIFT is the synergy of the 3 Big Rocks: Culture, Inclusive Excellence and Personalized Learning. Mental Wellness is also addressed in every lesson.
Mason Intermediate School students build an "MI Strong" community by learning about their own identity and how it shapes them, while also learning about others. Some important "windows & mirrors" events each year include the school's Veterans Day Assembly, Black History Bowl, World Down Syndrome Day, Autism Acceptance Day, and Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage actvities.
An important practice for MI students as they travel their own personalized learning journey is to practice setting goals, and building in time for self-reflection. We encourage our Comets to aim for progress over perfection.
We love family and community involvement. Visit us at an upcoming event, join the PTO or contribute to the Mason Schools Foundation. Whatever your level of participation interest, there's an opportunity to make a difference.
